Willis Sponsors Resolution for Pay Equity Day

NORTHLAKE, Ill. – State Rep. Kathleen Willis, D-Addison, is sponsoring legislation to designate Pay Equity Day in the State of Illinois.

“Women still earn less on average than men, causing them to work greater hours for the same pay,” Willis said. “I am proud to sponsor this resolution and promote this day of awareness to help close the wage gap and move us closer to equality for men and women in the workplace.”

Willis sponsored House Resolution 1021, which designates April 12, 2016 as Pay Equity Day in the State of Illinois. Pay Equity Day is a day of public awareness to call attention to the gap between wages earned by men and women. According to the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Illinois women earn only 79 percent of what their male counterparts do.

“Making sure that both men and women receive equal pay for the same work is a priority not only for women, but for our community as a whole,” Willis said. “We need to continue to raise awareness and find solutions to close the wage gap.”

Kathleen Willis is serving her second term in the Illinois General Assembly as State Representative of the 77th District, which includes O’Hare Airport and portions of Addison, Bellwood, Bensenville, Franklin Park, Maywood, Melrose Park, Northlake, Stone Park, and Wood Dale.
