Rep. Willis Appointed To Gun Safety Task Force

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Kathleen Willis, D-Addison, today announced her appointment to the Illinois Firearm Public Awareness Taskforce.

“I am happy to announce my appointment to this taskforce because the work is greatly needed,” said Willis. “Gun safety is something that we need to address and we need to do it in a thoughtful way that will protect lawful gun owners and keep people safe.”

Willis supported House Resolution 648, a measure that creates the Firearm Public Awareness Task Force, a 21-member, bi-partisan task force made up of experts, law enforcement, school administration, and advocates on both sides of the issue. The purpose of this task force is to gather data and study a multitude of gun violence related items in order to find common ground on gun issues. Willis plans to use this opportunity to dig deep into the data take a look at the most impactful steps that can be taken to increase safety. The Firearm Public Awareness Task Force will hold public hearings and is required by the statute to issue a written report of its findings.

“Illinois needs to be proactive in its approach to gun violence, and look at the whole picture,” said Willis. “From the gun violence in our streets to the threat of another mass shooting, it is clear that much work remains to be done.”
