Rep. Willis Statement on the Veto of the Gun Dealer Licensing Bill

03/13/2018
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Kathleen Willis, D-Addison, issued the following statement following the governor’s veto of the gun dealer licensing bill:

“Today, perhaps more than ever, Governor Bruce Rauner has revealed himself for what he truly is: an extreme politician who is willing to keep people in danger rather than implement a common-sense law, all in an effort to save his political career.

“The gun dealer licensing bill was a bipartisan piece of legislation that was the result of years of negotiations and compromise. It was crafted in the way legislation is supposed to be; the product of bringing people to the table and implementing straightforward reforms for the benefit of people’s safety.

“The governor’s veto is an example of why people have become disillusioned by our political process, because a self-serving politician is willing to ignore the voices of the many for the sake of his conservative base.”

Willis is serving her third term in the Illinois General Assembly as State Representative of the 77th District, which includes O’Hare Airport and portions of Addison, Bellwood, Bensenville, Franklin Park, Maywood, Melrose Park, Northlake, Stone Park, and Wood Dale.
