Willis Recognized by Northern Illinois Alliance of Fire Protection Districts

NORTHLAKE, Ill. – The Northern Illinois Alliance of Fire Protection Districts (NIAFPD) recently recognized state Rep. Kathleen Willis, D-Addison, as “Legislator of the Year” at its annual Legislative Awards Luncheon.

“It is a great honor to receive this recognition, because it comes from the men and women who work every day to keep our communities safe,” said Willis. “I see it as my job to work to make sure these brave individuals have all the tools they need to stay safe on the job.”

The event was part of the organization’s 24th Annual Conference where over 300 fire districts trustees, commissioners, chiefs and administration staff gather to learn how to better execute their duties and how they can better serve their residents through three days of meetings and seminars. The NIAFPD serves over 80 of the largest full-time fire districts throughout the state.

“As the wife of a retired firefighter, I view my job as a legislator to work in partnerships with the local governments I represent in Springfield,” said Willis. “When different of levels of local government collaborate, we can make better decisions on how to utilize resources and keep our neighborhoods safe. I hope this award is a recognition of our ability to do this.”

Willis is serving her third term in the Illinois General Assembly as State Representative of the 77th District, which includes O’Hare Airport and portions of Addison, Bellwood, Bensenville, Franklin Park, Maywood, Melrose Park, Northlake, Stone Park, and Wood Dale.
