Willis Encourages Residents to Review Safe Shopping Guide

ADDISON, Ill. – With the holiday season coming around the corner, state Rep. Kathleen Willis, D-Addison, is encouraging residents to consult the 2017 Safe Shopping Guide before buying gifts for their children and relatives.

“As a mother, I understand that the most important thing for parents is to keep their children safe,” Willis said. “This guide is a great resource to use in order to do just that.”

The Illinois Attorney General’s 2017 Safe Shopping Guide aims to help prevent injuries to children that could come from toys and other items given as gifts. The guide can be accessed on the Attorney General’s website at www.illinoisattorneygeneral.gov/consumers/2017_Safe_Shopping_Guide.pdf. The guide highlights 70 items that have been recalled over the past year, ranging from hover boards to furniture.

“The guide provides photos of the recalled and dangerous items, making it much easier to identify what you should avoid purchasing,” Willis said. “Although we hope that these items have been removed from the shelves, we must remain diligent in order to ensure that they stay out of our homes, especially when buying online.”

Willis is serving her third term in the Illinois General Assembly as State Representative of the 77th District, which includes O’Hare Airport and portions of Addison, Bellwood, Bensenville, Franklin Park, Maywood, Melrose Park, Northlake, Stone Park, and Wood Dale.
