Willis to Hold Property Tax Appeals Workshop for Leyden Township Residents

NORTHLAKE, Ill. –State Rep. Kathleen Willis (D-Addison), in partnership with the Cook County Assessor’s Office, will be hosting a Property Tax Appeals Workshop from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 25 at the Grant Park Recreation Center’s Trevino Hall, located at 44 W. Golfview Drive in Northlake.

“Many taxpayers are already over-burdened by increasing property taxes while the values of their homes have declined,” said Rep. Willis. “I continue to support reforms that would not allow higher tax levies when home values go down. In the meantime, I urge my constituents to stop by our workshop to learn more about how they can lower their assessment values and save money.”

Officials from the Assessor’s Office will be on hand to help residents understand the process of appealing the assessed value of their homes. The property value as assessed determines the amount owed on the tax bill, and residents can oftentimes receive a lower assessment upon appeal, meaning fewer taxes are paid by the appealing homeowner. Residents will be able to submit their appeals on-site to the Cook County Assessor’s Office.

“Property taxes are a very important concern to residents of the 77th District and something I hear about when going door-to-door repeatedly, so I will continue working to provide relief in whatever way possible,” added Willis.

Willis recently supported providing property tax relief by increasing the senior citizens’ homestead exemption available to all older homeowners in Illinois.
