Willis Demands Action to Prevent Las Vegas-Style Attack from Happening in Illinois

NORTHLAKE, Ill. – In light of the recent mass shooting in Las Vegas, state Rep. Kathleen Willis, D-Addison, is demanding immediate action to prevent a similar attack from occurring here in Illinois.

“My thoughts go out to the victims and those impacted by this horrific atrocity,” Willis said. “It is our responsibility to take action and do everything in our power to prevent the next attack from occurring in our community.”

Willis is leading on House Bill 2541 and Senate Bill 1657, which would both impose stronger oversight on those who wish to sell firearms. Willis’ measures would also create a Gun Dealer Licensing Board, which would be tasked with regulating the gun dealer licensing program. Additionally, Willis is also backing measures to outlaw the sale of military-style assault weapons in Illinois and requiring those convicted of illegally carrying firearms to undergo mental health screenings.

“The time is now to curb access to dangerous firearms from those who wish to do harm to our families and friends,” Willis continued. “We also need to have an open and honest conversation about the need to increase funding for mental health treatment for those who need it most.”

Willis is serving her third term in the Illinois General Assembly as State Representative of the 77th District, which includes O’Hare Airport and portions of Addison, Bellwood, Bensenville, Franklin Park, Maywood, Melrose Park, Northlake, Stone Park, and Wood Dale.
