Willis to Host Community Meeting to Discuss Education Issues

“The proposed constitutional amendment will institute some major changes to the way we fund education in Illinois, and I believe that it is important to have a thorough and worthwhile discussion within our communities about this proposal,” said Willis.

The legislation, House Joint Resolution Constitutional Amendment 51, calls for a 3% surcharge on individual incomes above one million dollars a year with proceeds to be distributed to K-12 education in Illinois. Revenue collected via this surcharge would be distributed to school district on a per-pupil basis. Superintendents and school board members are also invited to attend the meeting to discuss the proposed legislation as well.

“As a former school board member, I know how difficult it can be to balance a budget and continue to provide a high-quality education to students,” said Rep. Willis. “This legislation will have a major impact on revenue for local school districts, which is why I am holding this meeting with local residents and education professionals alike.”

Kathleen Willis is serving her first term in the Illinois General Assembly as State Representative of the 77th District, which includes O’Hare Airport and portions of Addison, Bellwood, Bensenville, Franklin Park, Maywood, Melrose Park, Northlake, Stone Park, and Wood Dale.
